St. Peter is the oldest building in the center of Munich. The first roman building there was probably built in the 12th century. The first gothic reconstruction was completed 1294, another one followed in the 2nd half of the 14th century. Finally Old Peter, how munich people call the church, received a renaissance-expansion in 1630/1636. In spite of an almost complete destruction in the 2nd world war, the church became reconstructed, mainly because of the pressure from the citizens of Munich, who wanted their old church back. It is recommended to climb the 297 steps up to the 97m high outlook platform, one can get a lovely overview over the city center and under good weather conditions even the Alps are visible.
