The Ludwigs church was sponsored by Ludwig I. and was planned both as a university church as well as a church for the newly emerged quarter Maxvorstadt. In 1944 the bombs damaged the church. In the interior decoration of the church, one of the largest frescos of the world can be admired, only Michelangelos work in the sistine chapelis bigger.
