The monument for Ludwig II. is located at the place where he originally wanted to have erected his opera building, dedicated to Richard Wagner. After the failure of this plan, the king stretched more and more out of Munich and became by far not so important for the city from an architectural point of view as his father Max II. and his grandfather Ludwig I did.
