The Glyptothek is a temple building in ionic style. King Ludwig was the building owner of the Glyptothek and he needed a showroom for the large quantity of artefacts he purchased during a trip to Italy in the years 1804-1805. The Glyptothek opened 1830 and was one of the first museums which was open to public.
