The new Residence (residence) was the successor of the Alte Hof as a residential site of the ruling family Wittelsbacher. The residence was very famous for its beauty in the 17th century. King Karl Gustav of Sweden wanted to transport the whole building by Swedish troops on rollers to his home in Stockholm.
